Cork, Ireland
You’ll find the beautiful city of Cork tucked away in southwest Ireland. It is the second largest city after Dublin, and the place of my next stop of my Irish adventure.
Located on the water, Cork is surrounded by the River Lee as it splits into two channels while leaving the Cork city centre in between. Eventually the River Lee drains into the Celtic Sea.
While in Cork I stayed at Sheila’s Hostel. A quaint and colourful place that is set in a great location with easy access to the city’s hotspots! I enjoyed my stay there.
Cork is a walkable city with some slopes and small hills to tackle. Below are several pictures I took when I was walking around the city.
I came across this artist painting a mural to commemorate Ireland’s Easter Rising, which dates back to April 1916. It is quite an interesting read for all you history buffs.
One of my stand outs in Cork was where I had dinner; at the Oliver Plunkett Pub. This place is so cool with lots of history! Of course as always, one of things I love most about exploring new places is checking out the live music scene. I am always chasing music and found this place to satisfy my musical appetite. Not to mention my food, atmosphere and bevie appetite! Below you will see a video and hear a performer playing on his Bodhrán, a traditional Irish drum with a Gaelic name meaning “skin tray.”
Next up I tour Blarney and Cobh. Did I kiss the Blarney Stone? Follow along to find out on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
